Established in 2003, both the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) and the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) allow trading in commodities . Until 2016, these exchanges were regulated by the Forward Markets Commission (FMC). However, in the 2016 Union Budget, the government decided to bring them under the regulatory purview of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), which has since overseen their operations. Today, MCX stands as the largest commodity derivatives exchange in India, with a market valuation exceeding INR 190 billion. Below is essential information regarding the MCX Holiday List 2025.

MCX and NCDEX Trading Sessions

The MCX (Multi Commodity Exchange) and NCDEX (National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange) operate in two main trading sessions daily: the morning session and the evening session. These sessions cater to different categories of commodities and may vary based on the type of product and international market influences.

Morning Session

Operates from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Evening Session

Typically runs from 5:00 PM to 11:30 PM
During U.S. Daylight Saving Time, the session may extend up to 11:55 PM

Muhurat Trading

A special one-hour trading session is conducted on Diwali, considered an auspicious occasion. The exchange announces the exact timing of Muhurat Trading in advance.
